Rita grows to a Cat. 4 storm. KEY WEST, Fla. - With winds reaching 135 mph, Hurricane Rita grew into a Category 4 storm Wednesday as it churned toward landfall later this week on the Gulf Coast.

Concern Over More Flooding as Rita Looms. Duane Gapinski, who is leading the effort, said the steel barriers should prevent a massive re-flooding of the city unless Rita grew in intensity or changed to a course closer to New Orleans.
